Foreign language textbooks should include listening skills for language acquisition and second language communication. Engagement and motivation impact language fluency and learning results by affecting students' excitement and attentiveness at school. This research examined high school English students' motivation and involvement in Grade 11 textbook "Spice Up" listening activities. Ten English teachers from Bursa's Anatolian, Vocational, and Imam Hatip High Schools were interviewed semi-structured to assess student motivation and involvement. The study employed qualitative methodologies and thematic analysis. The investigation found varying student interest and motivation. Type of school, relevancy of activities to students' interests, and language competency affect student engagement and motivation. Strategies such as pre-briefing, multimedia integration and gamification are used by teachers to overcome barriers to motivation and engagement. The comparison of the "Spice Up" textbook with the previous textbook shows changes in student engagement and suggests that the new textbook contains improvements over the old one.
