Enhancing English Vocabulary Acquisition through Innovative Methods: A Systematic Review
The acquisition and retention of English vocabulary play a pivotal role in enabling individuals to communicate effectively, comprehend diverse texts, and express themselves with precision. Traditional methods of vocabulary instruction, such as rote memorization and isolated vocabulary drills, have often proven ineffective in fostering deep understanding, promoting contextualization, and catering to individual learning styles. In response to these limitations, a plethora of innovative methods have emerged, incorporating technology, contextualized learning, and personalized learning strategies to revolutionize vocabulary instruction. Drawing upon 10 studies published within the last years, the review provides compelling evidence that innovative methods outperform traditional methods in promoting long-term retention, fostering deep understanding, enhancing contextualization, and increasing learner engagement. The findings reveal that technology-based tools, such as interactive vocabulary apps and virtual reality vocabulary games, provide engaging and personalized learning experiences that cater to diverse learning styles and preferences. Contextualized learning approaches, incorporating authentic texts, real-world examples, and storytelling activities, promote deep understanding of vocabulary concepts by grounding new words in meaningful contexts. Personalized learning strategies, tailored to individual needs and preferences, optimize learning outcomes for all learners, ensuring that vocabulary instruction is relevant, engaging, and effective. The implications of this research emphasize the importance of embracing innovative methods and integrating them into English vocabulary instruction strategies. Educators should consider incorporating technology-based tools, exploring contextualized learning approaches, and adopting personalized learning strategies to create more engaging, effective, and personalized learning experiences for their students.By promoting the adoption of innovative methods, this research aims to empower educators to revolutionize vocabulary instruction, enhancing language proficiency, and fostering lifelong learning habits among English language learners.
